It’s another win for Charlie Woods as dad Tiger Woods is spotted ahead of US Open.

Tiger Woods was spotted out on the golf course watching his young cub Charlie Woods chalk up another victory on the Hurricane Junior Tour at the weekend.

Charlie, competing in the Boys 14-15 Division, won by a commanding eight strokes in the 36-hole tournament in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.

He shot a total of 1-under par, finishing well clear of Noah Manly on 7-over par.

Luke Friend finished third on 8-over par.

Charlie’s father Tiger Woods is an investor of the Hurricane Junior Tour.

Woods, who remains on the sidelines since undergoing ankle surgery after The Masters, was spotted sat in a golf cart watching his son in action.

The former World No.1 last competed at Augusta National but was forced out through injury during his third round.

He then underwent a “successful” ankle surgery”.

The latest photo of Woods in a cart was posted by Ella_Golf_ on Instagram and then shared by the popular TWLegion account on Twitter.

Taking a closer look at the snap of Woods, and you can see he is still wearing a boot.

Woods will not be competing in next week’s US Open and he will more than likely be out of The Open at Royal Liverpool in July, too.

It is believed Woods is more than likely going to miss the rest of the PGA Tour season, but that is yet to be confirmed.

It also remains to be seen whether Woods will have any team presence at the Ryder Cup this September.

Woods will be hopeful of being able to tee it up with Charlie in the annual father-son PNC Championship in December.

Former World No 1 Garbiñe Muguruza has announced her engagement to boyfriend Arthur Borges two years into their relationship.

Muguruza chose to share the news through Spanish publication ¡Hola! earlier this week.

Later Muguruza and Borges shared a few candid snaps from their engagement photoshoot on their Instagram accounts on Friday.

The two-time major champion also revealed for the first time how she met Borges and what led to them dating.

While she was participating in the US Open in the summer of 2021, they happened to cross paths in New York. According to the report, Muguruza was walking through Central Park on her day off when Borges spotted her, stopped to wish her luck in the match, and the rest is history.

Muguruza revealed to the magazine that Borges proposed to her at the Marbella Club Hotel and that she hopes they will wed in 2024.

“We would like it to be next year, in the summer, near the beach and in Spain, because it is the place that most unites us,” Muguruza said.

Borges, the director of Made to Measure North America at Tom Ford, has often been spotted in her box and the couple have been afforded more time together thanks to the Spaniard taking some time off from the WTA Tour.

Since their meeting, Borges, a dual citizen of Finland and Spain, has been a constant member of Muguruza’s support group, both on and off the court. Borges was present to encourage Muguruza during a comeback title run at the Akron WTA Finals Guadalajara in 2021, which propelled her back to World No. 3 in the rankings, and they later made their relationship public.

He has supported her throughout this year as well, even though she is taking a break from the Hologic WTA Tour to spend more time with her family and friends. Muguruza stated last month that she would miss the clay and grass swings and that this would go on throughout the spring and summer.

“Spending time with family and friends and it’s really been healthy and amazing so I am going to lengthen this period till summer,” she posted to her Instagram stories.

Muguruza and Borges have not shared whether they intend to start a family.

The couple share frequent updates on Instagram giving a glimpse into the life of two young jetsetters.

Muguruza is only 29 but has achieved plenty in her career to date and might even be content to call it a day if she doesn’t yearn for the court.

Former world number one Garbine Muguruza has hinted at a potential return to professional tennis next year.

The 29-year-old has not played a professional tennis match since January 2023 where she suffered a defeat against Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova.

Muguruza later announced that she skip the French Open and Wimbledon this year to spend more time with her family.

That announcement intensified rumours about the future of the two-time Grand Slam winner. However, the Caracas-born, stated that she is preparing herself to return to the court.

“I’m enjoying this sabbatical,” she said while speaking at the Chamartín Tennis Club. “I think it’s good to stop but it’s not a definitive goodbye. I want to prepare myself to come back, when I’m ready I’ll go back to the courts.”

When Muguruza was asked about her goals when she will return to the tennis court, she responded by saying: “US Open, Australian Open, Olympic medal.”

During the ceremony, Muguruza received a Gold Medal for Sports Merit and revealed happiness in doing that.

“(I am) very excited by this recognition,” she said. “It makes me feel very proud to play, to achieve so many successes. I wanted to thank the president of the CSD for coming and giving me this award and the President of the Federation Miguel Díaz. I thank my mother and my partner, who have been able to come today.”

Muguruza won two Grand Slam titles in her career. Her first big triumph came in 2016 when she defeated America’s legendary tennis player Serena Williams with a score of 7–5, 6–4 to lift the French Open.

Her second major title came a year later when she got the better of Serena’s sister and former world number one Venus Williams in the final with a score of 7–5, 6–0 to lift the Wimbledon trophy.

Tiger Woods might not be teeing it up at the US Open this week as he continues to recover from ankle surgery, but his son, Charlie, is more than capable of swinging a club, as he demonstrated at yesterday Riviera Country Club near Los Angeles Country Club, which is hosting this year’s third men’s Major Championship.

The 14-year-old’s swing has been a talking point ever since he made the headlines in December 2021 when he and Woods Senior fired 11 birdies in a row in their second-place finish at the PNC Championship.

That performance was not a one-off, and Woods Junior is showing plenty of signs of becoming quite the golfer. He finished tied for ninth in April’s PGA National Junior Open, and recently cruised to victory on the Hurricane Tour’s Major Championship at Village Golf Course in Florida, where he won the 36-hole tournament by an incredible eight shots.

Tiger was there to watch his son’s performance, and he would have been particularly impressed by his scoring on the par 5s. The 47-year-old has previously admitted that his son is now capable of outdriving him, and he certainly took advantage of the long holes, finishing on five-under in the eight par 5s he played.

Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods

Just like his 15-time, Major-winning father, he’s not one to rest on his laurels. Charlie’s swing was captured on social media during a practice round, and it immediately got people comparing his action to his father’s once again.

Last year, Tiger revealed that he had been trying to toughen his son up with mind games, saying: “It’s non-stop, non-stop. It’s trying to get him – if I can get into his head, that means someone else can get into his head. It’s going to get to a point where I can’t get into his head, and then no one else can get in there either. That’s what my dad believed. You’ve got to be willing to take it.”

If Charlie is to embark on a professional golf career and follow in his father’s footsteps, he’s unlikely to operate under the radar – so a strong mental game, which has always been one of Tiger’s greatest strengths, will stand him in good stead.

This week’s US Open is being contested in Los Angeles, Tiger’s home city, for the first time in 75 years. Charlie’s presence there raises speculation as to whether the pair will be at the event, a tournament Woods Senior will have been desperate to have competed in.
