Trainer Brian McIntyre believes Terence Crawford has all the tools necessary to overcome the weight disparity against Canelo Alvarez.

Over the weekend boxing media members caught up with Terence Crawford’s trainer Brian McIntyre and asked him about the upcoming Canelo vs Munguia fight as well as Crawford still wanting the opportunity to fight Canelo himself. Check out some of what he had to say below.

BoMac on Canelo vs Munguia

“Canelo gonna stop him. I say in 10. It’s a decent fight but Munguia ain’t ready for that level yet, he ain’t been on that level yet.”

On reports of Crawford considering a fight with Chris Eubank Jr

“Fake news.”

On how he thinks Crawford matches up against Canelo

“Bud beat his ass, out-box his ass. (Weight) don’t matter, Bud been fighting big people all day, all his fuckin’ life.”

On how dominant Crawford would look against Canelo

“It’d be a Errol vs Crawford 2.”

On Canelo saying there’s nothing for him to gain by fighting Crawford

“I respect that. I respect that because, you know what I’m saying, if you get beat by the smaller man, now you look like an asshole.

“Hard boxing fans know that Bud can beat Canelo. He might be bigger, but he don’t got the height, he don’t got the reach. I mean, he got a good boxing IQ but he don’t have that crazy IQ that Terence has.”

Could the two fighters be about to step into the ring?

Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntrye, who has trained both Terence Crawford and Chris Eubank Jr, has commented on the possibility of a fight between the pair and his relationship with the British boxer.

Crawford hasn’t fought since beating Errol Spence Jr last July to become the undisputed champion in both light welterweight and welterweight, but there has been speculation that he could be set for a surprise showdown with Eubank.

However, when asked about a possible match, McIntyre, who is working with Crawford’s camp after previously training Eubank, told ThaBoxingVoice that there’s no truth in it.

“It’s fake news man,” he claimed.

“I don’t know who put that out there. Somebody said Eubank, he could be playing but we’ll stay in the gym and be ready for whatever.

“If that fight ever does come about we sit at the table and talk about it, you never know.”

The trainer was also asked about his current relationship with Eubank, and he revealed they remain on good terms.

Adding: “I still talk to him. When I was in Vegas he still come by the gym. He was telling me he was waiting on a fight and once he has the date he’ll give me a call.”

Scores of fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the ring. However, there hasn’t been much development in finalizing the next opponents for unified welterweight champion Terence Crawford. So the question still remains at large.

Boxing Kingdom threw this poser early this morning: “Who do you want to see Terence Crawford fight next?” The Nebraskan southpaw last defeated Errol Spence Jr. on July 29 last year to become the first two-division undisputed champion among men. Ever since a series of names and propositions have cropped up. The world champion has quite a few alternates to go after. But what about the fans? Who would they prefer squaring up against Terence Crawford?

Terence Crawford and the Quest for a Worthy Rival

Soon after defeating Spence Jr., ‘Bud’ announced he had Jermall Charlo and Canelo Alvarez in his crosshairs. However, the former’s defeat at the hands of the Mexican legend further restricted the choices. It should be kept in mind that fighting Alvarez involves climbing three divisions up, which is a herculean effort. He also settled all the confusion over the chances of a Gervonta Davis fight. By September, Errol Spence Jr. had triggered the rematch clause.

Later, in November, Terence Crawford saw his status change from undisputed champion to that of unified champion as the IBF decided to relinquish him of their belt. The measure followed ‘Bud’ not being able to fight Jaron Ennis, the IBF mandatory challenger.

Terence Crawford

Thus, as fans saw, the top echelons of the welterweight division witnessed significant fluctuations. It’s a different matter; they yielded no definitive outcomes. But when it comes to fans, they appear certain of a few prospects to be worthwhile.

And the popular demand goes to

For most, when asked, it was either Canelo Alvarez or Jaron ‘Boot’ Ennis. However, a few voiced out on checking the winner of the upcoming catchweight clash between Tim Tszyu and Keith Thurman.

Take, for instance, this user. Their first choice remains Canelo Alvarez, provided he defeats David Benavidez. Otherwise, the winner of the Thurman-Tszyu should equally do so.

Likewise, for this follower too, the winner of the Thurman-Tszyu fight is followed by ‘Boots’, after he’s done with some major fights, and then finally Canelo Alvarez.

However, for this user, it has to be Jaron Ennis. But they expressed an impending fear that Terence Crawford might go without a fight this year.

Then, for this follower, Spence Jr. rematch ranked first. If not, then either a ‘Boot’s clash or face-off with Tim Tszyu at a higher weight worked as well.

Nevertheless, it seems like some held an altogether different thought. Like this user who believes that ‘Bud’ should finally call it a day instead of chasing anymore fights.

Of course, coming across the champion’s photograph, a few couldn’t prevent themselves from taking potshots at his hairdo.

Fans will always expect more from their icons. However, due cognizance should also be made of Terence Crawford’s age. The champion will turn 37 this year. So with increasing age, the options might dwindle. Hence, whatever move he has to make, it has to be soon and decisive.

Ever since defeating Errol Spence Jr. to become the first-ever two-division undisputed champion, Terence Crawford has made it clear that he is looking to build a legacy. Thus he has been hunting Canelo Alvarez for a bout. However, the fight couldn’t be made last year with Canelo fighting Jermell Charlo. Moreover, Alvarez had claimed that it was not the right time to fight Crawford. But it seems that things might change for good now.

It is well known that Alvarez has some fight dates as the year kicked off and ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez revealed that he might face Crawford later on in the year. Reportedly, Canelo is planning to first fight Jermall Charlo and then Crawford after that. So did the Mexican icon change his mind? For now, the question remains unanswered, however, Crawford does seem in high spirits as he boasts about the potential bout.

Terence Crawford wants to add the Canelo name to his legacy!

As the rumors about the potential fight go around it has received some backlash from the fans. A lot of fans believe that because of Crawford’s little to no experience in the middleweight category, Alvarez would be able to win the fight with relative ease. However, Terence Crawford might hold a different opinion as he appears excited about the fight in his latest post.

In a Twitter post, Crawford claimed, “Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez is the biggest fight in boxing right now. Like it or not it’s just facts.” ‘Bud’ seemed confident as he made the bold statement about the fight. The fight will undoubtedly garner the attention of boxing fans around the world should it be made official. For now, Alvarez will be focusing on his upcoming fight against Charlo,  and it remains to be seen if Jermall will be able to achieve a different result than his younger twin. In the meantime here’s what Stephen A. Smith said about the Charlo fight.

Stephen A. Smith questions Alvarez-Benavidez fight status

A recent uproar over Canelo Alvarez’s choices set the stage for a heated discussion on ESPN’s First Take. Stephen A. Smith didn’t hold back his dissatisfaction regarding the swirling speculations. In June 2023, the boxing community anticipated a thrilling showdown between Canelo and WBC mandatory David Benavidez under the PBC banner. However, the excitement took an unexpected turn when Canelo faced Jermell Charlo, leaving fans and pundits puzzled.

Smith, not one to mince words, expressed his frustration, stating, “I’m pretty pissed off. I don’t like it at all. How many fights are you going to have before you avoid giving Benavidez the chance he so richly deserves?”

Transitioning to another angle, David Benavidez’s formidable skills pose a real threat, but Canelo seems to prefer the path of least resistance. Smith, resonating with many boxing enthusiasts, labels it a “travesty” that the highly-anticipated Canelo vs. Benavidez clash hasn’t materialized, criticizing Canelo’s trend of sidestepping high-risk matchups.

The NFC heat is on. A tight match-up between an established force in the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions, which is riding high on postseason performance, has the fans on the edge of their seats. It seems boxing stars Terence Crawford and Ryan Garcia are no different.

The 49ers welcome the Lions on Sunday in what is their record 19th conference championship game appearance. Meanwhile, the Lions are marking their second title game since the Super Bowl era and the first since the 1991 season. Therefore, the critical matchup has David vs. Goliath written all over it, and ‘Bud’ and ‘KingRy’ have already decided whom to show their support to.

Terence Crawford and Ryan Garcia have their picks

How the 49ers’ run defense holds up against the attack of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery would decide the match. While Ryan Garcia was ready to support the attacking front of Gibbs and Montgomery, Terence Crawford had faith in the 49ers’ defense.

Following this, he also had a bold prediction of the Lions handing the 49ers a sound beating. He penned, “On top of it Detroit will blow out the San Fran.” On the other hand, Crawford was upbeat about supporting the 49ers. He said, “Let’s go Lions!!!”

Terence Crawford

In the other playoff match, the Kansas City Chiefs edged out the Baltimore Ravens with a 17-10 scoreline. They have secured their berth in the Super Bowl game and will await the winner of the Lions vs. 49ers. While the NFL action reaches a tipping point, Garcia is undergoing turmoil.

Garcia’s recent debacle

The American fighter, after a KO win over Oscar Duarte, is on the lookout for an opponent for his next fight. However, he has failed to bag a signature despite screening through multiple foes. He flirted with the idea of a championship fight with Devin Haney, only to leave him mid-negotiation.

The California native then pursued a fight with Rolando Romero and Isaac Cruz. That also didn’t turn out as he wanted.

What do you make of Terence Crawford and Ryan Garcia cheering for the NFL teams? Who do you think will edge out the others in the race for the Super Bowl?

Terence Crawford TKO 9 Errol Spence Jr.

Terence Crawford has been universally recognized as one of boxing’s best pound-for-pound fighters for the better part of the last decade.

But the one major knock on “Bud” was that a win against a highly reputable opponent was missing from his resume.

That all came to an end on July 29, when Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) reeled in “The Big Fish,” Errol Spence Jr., and delivered a career-defining performance in a major showdown more than five years in the making.

The win resulted in Crawford collecting all of the welterweight belts and the prestigious Ring Magazine title. Being crowned the undisputed champion also resulted in Crawford’s elevation to No. 1 in The Ring’s pound-for-pound rankings.

The fight was considered somewhat of a 50-50 matchup going in, although Crawford was the slight betting favorite. But the Nebraska native delivered a one-sided beating that will be remembered for ages to come.

Crawford had a stunning, stone-cold showcase, knocking down the Texan once in the second, twice in the seventh, then mercifully forcing referee Harvey Dock to step in and stop the one-sided action in the ninth.

Crawford connected with 185 shots against Spence, who fired back 96 of his own but failed to evoke any concern from Crawford. Bud seemingly dominated every second of the contest from stern to stem.

The long-anticipated event was also a commercial success by all accounts, generating nearly 700,000 pay-per-view buys domestically and more than $21,000,000 in ticket sales at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas

A sequel is in store for 2024. Spence exercised his contractual right to a rematch, but it remains to be seen at what weight a fight will be contested. Crawford and Spence have both stated that a move up to 154 pounds is imminent.

TERENCE CRAWFORD AND TKO 9 ERROL SPENCE JR.

After years of pounding the table for high-profile fights, the 36-year-old Crawford is finally in an advantageous position to fight anyone at any weight he pleases.

Clashes against the likes of Ring Magazine 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo and undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez could follow.

The three-division champion could quickly add world titles in other weight classes, should he turn in more prolific performances like he did against Spence.

RUNNERS-UP:

Naoya Inoue KO 8 Stephen Fulton — Naoya Inoue’s tentative title for Performance of the Year lasted a mere four days until Terence Crawford took it away, but the Japanese star’s destruction of unified titlist Stephen Fulton during his 122-pound debut was utterly impressive and further added to his mystique and moniker of “The Monster.”

Devin Haney UD 12 Regis Prograis — Former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney made two-time 140-pound titlist Regis Prograis look like an outmatched novice, easily picking him apart to score the shoutout unanimous decision win in his junior welterweight debut. Haney outlanded Prograis 129 to 36 during the masterclass performance. Prograis, meanwhile, set a CompuBox record for the fewest total punches landed in a 12-round fight.

Teofimo Lopez Jr. UD 12 Josh Taylor — Teofimo Lopez Jr. was perceived to be a broken boxer heading into the fight against Josh Taylor, but he proved that he still has plenty left in the tank by beating the former undisputed junior welterweight champion. Lopez’s big win planted him back in Ring Magazine’s top 10 pound-for-pound list.

Terence Crawford

Jesse Rodriguez RTD 9 Sunny Edwards — If 2022 was considered Jesse Rodriguez’s coming-out party, 2023 was the year that proved the boxer billed as “Bam” will be hosting block parties across 112, 115 and 118 pounds for years to come. Rodriguez dominated Sunny Edwards to become a unified flyweight titlist, and for the first time, also cracked the top 10 of Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound list.

The tear-strained echoes of the Dallas Cowboys’ yee-haws seem to have reached the hallowed realm of the squared circle. The Green Bay Packers had well established their hegemony in the NFL playoffs by the fourth quarter. While the sporting world takes notice, in the distant land of the gloves, their game control appears to have stirred memories in every nook and cranny of Terence Crawford‘s mind.

The game seems to have reminded him of the match with Errol Spence Jr. Wasting no time, the welterweight champion took to social media to share what he felt at the moment. Identifying himself with the way ‘The Green and Gold’ has taken charge, the first two-division undisputed champion among men probably took a dig at his adversary. The two fought a masterpiece on July 29 last year at the T-Mobile Arena. Crawford took over the reins of the match in the opening rounds. The bout came to an end in the ninth round. ‘Bud’ won via technical knockout.

Cowboys Packed-Off: Terence Crawford slings a shot

Terence Crawford wrote that the playoff between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys resembled the match between him and Errol Spence Jr. Then he added that the Cowboys must have been reeling from a spate of injuries; perhaps that could be the reason for their downfall. “Oooowwweeee, this game looking like me and @ErrolSpenceJr. They must have injuries; that’s why we winning hun?” Said the welterweight champion.

Now, was that an apparent jab against his former adversary? Not long ago, Spence Jr. shared details about undergoing cataract surgery. Reportedly, he appears to have hinted upon entering the July 29 fight with an eye injury. Spence Jr. acknowledged, in no uncertain terms, the sheer performance of Terence Crawford. However, he stated, “Why you think I got hit with so many jabs and hooks?

Anyhow, Terence Crawford continued. Some half-an-hour later, he took the next dig at the Cowboys, saying, “Ooowwweee, I know yall cowgirls hot right now.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Terence Crawford?

A few minutes later, he wrapped up, expressing his love and admiration for Texas and Dallas. But the final roasting was left for the home football team: “It’s just that the cowgirls have always been a rivalry to my Packers, and they all was betting against me.

The world champion has yet to return to the ring. Though Spence Jr., incidentally a Texas native, initiated the rematch clause, as of now, its status appears to be on tenterhooks. Soon after the Spence Jr. fight, he expressed interest in pursuing Jermell Charlo and Canelo Alvarez for the next big fight. However, Charlo suffered defeat at the hands of the Mexican icon. Thus, only the latter might be standing between Crawford and his ambition to become an undisputed champion in a third-weight class.

What’s your take on the rematch between Crawford and Spence Jr.? Should it be pushed forward or laid to rest? Please share your views with us in the comments below.

Terence Crawford won the 2023 ‘Ring Magazine Performance of the Year award’ for his win over Errol Spence Jr, marking a spectacular year for the boxer.

Bud became the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era after stopping Spence in the ninth round. He dropped Spence three times on his way to becoming undisputed in a second weight class. This was following his feat at junior welterweight. The manner of the win was equally impressive as Crawford kept his 100 percent knockout rate at 147.

“Terence Crawford has been announced as the winner of the 2023 Ring Magazine Performance of the Year award after stopping Errol Spence,”  Michael Benson revealed

The win was significant as he beat Naoya Inoue, who also had an integral year, to the award. He joined Terence Crawford in becoming undisputed in a second weight class after knocking out Marlon Tapales to win all the belts at super bantamweight. Crawford and Inoue are considered the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, showing there is very little to separate the pair, which is why Crawford’s award was impressive.

But it was not just Crawford who was recognised. His trainer Bomac was also honored with the ‘Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year’ award. He devised a game plan to neutralize Spence’s jab, his biggest weapon coming into the fight. Bomac also managed to help Chris Eubank Jr. get his revenge on Liam Smith in their rematch.

Eubank Jr. stopped the Liverpudlian after being stopped in the fourth round in their first bout. That showed Bomac could work his magic on more than just Crawford, especially since there were question marks over whether Eubank should have retired after the Smith loss. Now, he is in the conversation for a world title at 160.

Crawford’s Trainer

“His coach Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre has been announced as the winner of the 2023 Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year award,” Michael Benson added

There is still more to come from Crawford, but it does not appear to be the Spence rematch. Bud ruled out the rematch after becoming frustrated at the talk over his win over Spence. Several suggestions have been put forward to imply that Spence was not 100 percent coming into the fight, thus taking away the impressive nature of his win. This included the claims that Spence struggled to make 147. Spence did not indicate that, but he stated there were issues with his vision in the Crawford fight. His cataract surgery was cited as a reason for being hit by Bud’s shots frequently, leaving Crawford frustrated.

“It’s been past due. S**t was covering my eye. Why [do] you think I got hit with so many jabs and hooks? Still a great performance by bro [Crawford],” Spence said

“I done heard it all now @ErrolSpenceJr it’s ok tho because all in all I’m glad it’s over and done with. I wish you well ma brotha,” Crawford stated

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has taken another hit after Errol Spence claimed he fought Terence Crawford with an eye problem.

Spence reappeared for the first time since his loss to Crawford in the summer of 2023 on a Las Vegas Pay Per View blockbuster.

Upon his return, “The Truth” said he underwent eye surgery for cataracts. He also says his eye was why Crawford landed ‘so many hooks and jabs’ in their one-sided fight.

If what the former world champion states is true, it means Spence did not have a one-hundred-percent vision going into the event. There’s also a case to answer regarding whether Spence should have been cleared in the first place.

The debate has opened a can of worms on which two former world titleholders have aired their respective views. Spence is ultimately revealing that he went into the Crawford headliner knowingly injured.

Kermit Cintron and Ishe Smith both questioned the entire scenario.

Terence Crawford

Errol Spence makes stunning eye injury claims

Cintron said: “If I were Errol Spence, I would sue his eye doctor. For every fight I’ve had or was scheduled in my career, I always had my eyes examined.

“No way an eye doctor would have missed the cataract diagnosis. Doesn’t make any sense. Speedy recovery to the Champ.”

Smith added: “Every fighter has to see an eye doctor before every fight. So you were out here fighting with cataracts?”

Responding directly to Smith, Cintron stated: “Champ, I posted basically the same thing yesterday. Eyes exams are mandatory.

“For a doctor to have missed that, they need to hang up his license.”

Ex-IBF ruler Smith, the first-ever world champion from Las Vegas, continued: “As I have said, they are three places I know that don’t f*** around when it comes to fighters’ health. Las Vegas, California, and New York.

“Here are Las Vegas’s eye examination forms you have to complete to be licensed in this state. So they said, f*** it, the fight is too big, approve anyway?

He concluded: “You can’t even get a license to fight in the state of Nevada without having an extensive eye exam that includes the dilation of one’s eyes. But what do I know?”

Crawford vs. Spence II

Spence outlining that he couldn’t see Crawford’s punches properly comes just days after referee Tony Weeks alleged that Fredrick Lawson was allowed to compete despite two pre-fight brain tests showing an aneurysm.

Weeks says a third was clear when organizers sought a second opinion. However, the damage was already done, forcing Golden Boy and the NSAC to release separate statements.

These latest revelations put a rematch between Crawford and Spence in serious doubt, if it wasn’t already.

Terence Crawford has come under fire from fellow pugilist Teofimo Lopez for facing sub-optimal opponents throughout his career.

‘Bud’ is regarded as arguably the No.1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world right now following his defining performance against Errol Spence Jr. last year.

But Lopez stated that many of the fighters that Crawford has faced were impaired due to injury, including Spence Jr., his most recent foe.’The Takeover’ was recently interviewed by Boxing Social, where he took aim at the undisputed welterweight champion and also called him out.

He said this:

“The fighters that Crawford fought were handicapped. Errol Spence just announced about his [cataract] in his eye. Jose Benevidez Jr., when [Crawford] fought him, he had a shot leg. Who’s the other fighter… Kell Brook with his eye. So every fighter that Crawford has faced throughout the 147 pound division, whether it looks good on paper. They’ve been injured. I’m healthy. Fight the best fighter at a healthier weight.”

Errol Spence Jr. shares image after cataract surgery ahead of rematch with Terence Crawford

In July 2023, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. went head-to-head in one of the biggest welterweight fights in boxing history.

The pair faced off to determine the first undisputed welterweight champion in the ‘four belt era’, and both men entered the ring undefeated. Fans and pundits expected a close contest, with Crawford and Spence Jr. regarded as the best fighters at 147 pounds.

However, ‘Bud’ asserted his dominance from the opening bell and got the better of his opponent in most of the exchanges. Crawford dropped ‘The Truth’ on three separate occasions throughout the fight before winning via TKO in Round 9.

Terence Crawford

Terence Crawford made history by becoming the first male boxer to be crowned an undisputed champion in two weight divisions. A month after their clash, Errol Spence Jr. activated the rematch clause in their contract, with negotiations now underway between both parties.

‘The Truth’ has battled with several health issues throughout his career, including an eye problem that stemmed back to before his potential fight with Manny Pacquiao in 2021.

Spence Jr. recently took to social media to share images of a surgery he had to remove a cataract from his eye, and wrote this:

“Had to get cataract surgery. It’s been past due s**t was covering my eye. Why you think I got hit with so many jabs in hooks [against Terence Crawford]. Still a great performance by bro.”
