Oleksandr Usyk Names The Heavyweight Who Hit Harder Than Both Tyson Fury And Anthony Joshua

Oleksandr Usyk

Is undisputed heavyweight champion after just six fights in the division and has taken some hard shots to get there.

Formerly four-belt ruler at cruiserweight, the Ukrainian master moved up and found his feet with a stoppage win over Chazz Witherspoon. He moved into a points victory over Derek Chisora – a fight in which the Brit pushed him hard over twelve – before beating Anthony Joshua by unanimous decision to become unified champion.

The ‘AJ’ rematch went largely the same way but ended in a closer split decision. Usyk made his second title defence against 26-year-old Daniel Dubois, whom he stopped in ninth following a low-blow controversy which many felt should have given Dubois the win.

Enter Tyson Fury, who was having great success with uppercuts in the middle rounds before Usyk fought like only he can and scored a knockdown in the ninth. He would win a split decision to add the fourth and final belt to his collection, cementing his name in the heavyweight history books.

Speaking on the 3 Knockdown Rule podcast, the champ said that Fury gave him his toughest test to date, but name-checked Chisora as the hardest puncher.

“Listen, I have respect for Tyson Fury. A fighter, a great man, but my opponent. Very hard man. Very smart … [Hardest fight] I think yes. Punch? I think no. Derek Chisora. Very tough guy. Derek – right hand, left hand, I’d like block… ‘Oh my God! Oh move Alex, this is dangerous.’”

Chisora swarmed the Ukrainian with winging hooks, taking any contact he could get. As the rounds went on, Usyk’s movement tired the Brit and he looked close to being stopped himself towards the end of the fight.

Anthony Joshua Suggested Diversion To Football as linked with £150m ex-EPL club takeover

Anthony Joshua has reportedly been ‘approached over a potential £150 million’ investment opportunity in a former Premier League football club.

It is understood that the British heavyweight, whose company, Sparta Promotions, banked an enormous £41.3m after the 34-year-old went undefeated in 2023.

According to The Sunday Times Rich List, Joshua has a net worth of approximately £150m to £200m, having previously worked as a brand ambassador with the likes of Lucozade, Under Armour, Hugo Boss, Land Rover, and Jaguar.

Joshua has fought once in 2024, claiming a sensational second-round knockout victory against Francis Ngannou in March, banking approximately £39m before any pay-per-view sales

According to The Athletic, the former heavyweight champion’s representatives have now been involved in ‘exploratory talks’ over an investment into former Premier League club Watford.

They claimed that Watford are looking for an injection of cash and add that ‘Joshua was not involved directly in the talks’.

The Hornets are currently owned by Italian businessman Gino Pozzo, who became the club’s majority owner back in 2014.

The north London side finished 15th in the Championship this season, having been relegated to the Championship following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.

Joshua, who was born in Watford General Hospital and grew up on Watford’s Meriden Estate, has strong links to the club but it appears he has seemingly walked away from the proposals.

‘An investment business which has brought Anthony investment opportunities in the past was approached and held an entry-level discussion about an opportunity with Watford Football Club,’ his representatives told The Athletic.

‘This was an initial chat without even a discussion over due diligence which so often kills these types of deals.’

The outlet also claims that his involvement could be part of a consortium investment, with Watford having recently been searching for new investment.

‘Anthony is not involved and has no plans to be involved. He is fully focused on boxing and has no time at the moment to give to new opportunities outside of his sport. He is a son of Watford and wishes them all the best,’ Joshua’s spokesperson added.

Reports from The Athletic in January had claimed that a US firm had been in talks to purchase a stake in the club.

There is talk that Joshua could return to the ring later this year to face the winner of Daniel Dubois and Filip Hrgovic, but no fight has been confirmed as yet.

“He’s a Beast” Joseph Parker Predicts Anthony Joshua-Daniel Dubois

The heavyweight division is as busy as it has been for years right now and, in the wake of Daniel Dubois‘s latest win, Joseph Parker has assessed his chances against Anthony Joshua should the two fight later in the year.

Parker himself is coming off the back of two big wins, first again Deontay Wilder back in December then Zhilei Zhang in March. Dubois also got a determined win against Jarrell Miller in December before backing it up with a career-best stoppage victory against Filip Hrgovic on the Matchroom versus Queensbury card on June 1.

He is now the interim IBF title holder and has been named as the mandatory for a shot at the full belt, held by undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk, though it is expected that the belt will become vacant and that he could well fight Joshua for it in September.

Ahead of that potential all-British showdown, Parker has spoken to Seconds Out about who might come out on top.

“Listen if they do collide in September, Wembley Stadium, I see Dubois being the underdog. He looked very good against Hrgovic but Joshua is the favourite going into that fight. We’ll see what he can bring to a bigger and better challenge.”

“I feel he will need to bring more concentration, more variety of punches, just a bit more movement, a bit more punch variety. Joshua is a beast and looked very good in his last two fights so I feel Dubois needs to bring a lot more than he did against Hrgovic.”

Joshua has also put together an impressive run of back-to-back knockout wins over Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou in the last year.

I got knocked out by Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois but neither hit as hard as ‘Lay Em Out’ says Dorian Darch

The East Dulwich banger retired from professional boxing in 2017 with a record of 12-4-1 with 8 wins coming by way of knockout.

During an eight-year stint in the paid ranks, Lewison won a Southern Area heavyweight title and unsuccessfully challenged for the British belt against Dillian Whyte in 2016.

Four years prior, Lewison stopped Darch in the fourth round at the Brentwood Centre.

Not only did he hand the Welshman the first defeat of his professional career but he also broke his jaw.

“Ian Lewison hit me the hardest,” Darch told talkSPORT.com. “I took 150 people to Essex thinking I was going to win.

“When you go out there and roll the dice you are more open to shots.

“And he just f***ing broke my jaw, nobody else has done that with or without the gloves so he must have been able to bang.”

In the years that followed his defeat to Lewison, Darch went from prospect to journeyman boxer.

One of his first assignments as an away fighter came against Joshua in 2014, two years removed from the Watford powerhouse’s Olympic Gold.

Darch was stopped in the second round when referee Terry O’Connor stepped in and waved off the contest after ‘Dark Fruits’ was caught on unsteady legs by a left hook.

Darch was knocked down three times by Dubois en route to the eventual stoppage but he insists he could have kept going.

“Even though Dubois knocked me down loads of times he never really hurt me,” Darch added.

“They were flash knockdowns more than anything. I could have kept getting up from them whereas with AJ he hit me with a left hook and it was lucky the referee stepped in because he would have hit me into the crowd with the next one.

“I’ll demolish Joshua. I’ll get even better from here. after “Anthony Joshua sends Daniel Dubois chilling warning as negotiations over huge Wembley showdown get underway

ANTHONY JOSHUA has seemingly sent a chilling warning in Daniel Dubois’ direction as the Brits prepare for a Wembley showdown.

I will go very far says : Daniel Dubois as he show up to face Anthony Joshua for IBF heavyweight belt

After his surprising victory over Filip Hrgovic by an eighth-round technical knockout to win the IBF interim heavyweight championship on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Britain’s Daniel Dubois has set his sights on his next opponent: fellow Brit Anthony Joshua.

Following his win, Dubois spoke to SecondsOut and expressed his desire to face Joshua in what could become the International Boxing Federation heavyweight title fight.

“That’s the next step. I don’t have words to explain how I feel, but I’m glad I was able to get through it. It was a war. You guys will see, I’m ready to beat Joshua,” Dubois told SecondsOut.

Dubois‘ victory was impressive given the way he had been at a crossroads in his career after defeats to both Oleksandr Usyk and Joe Joyce.

However, back-to-back successes over Jarrell Miller and Hrgovic have catapulted him back into the conversation in the heavyweight division.

What About Oleksandr Usyk?

There is ongoing controversy regarding the status of Oleksandr Usyk, the newly crowned undisputed heavyweight champion.

Usyk might be stripped of his IBF title due to his refusal to defend it against the mandatory challenger in that ranking, Filip Hrgovic, as he is planning a rematch with Tyson Fury.

In this scenario, a potential bout between Joshua and Dubois could be for the possibly vacant IBF title, which would be somewhat ironic given the fact Joshua won it for the first time after it was vacated by Tyson Fury.

Usyk is seeking to retain his title through legal means by petitioning the IBF for an exception to prevent his belt from being stripped. However, following the fight between Hrgovic and Dubois, it appears likely that the title may be taken away from Usyk.

The potential fight between Dubois and Joshua is being discussed for Wembley Stadium, though Joshua‘s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has also hinted at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a possible venue. This decision would require consultation with King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

The fight is tentatively planned for October.

Anthony Joshua could fight for a world title as soon as September after Oleksandr Usyk is stripped of one of his belts.

The Ukrainian became the first undisputed heavyweight king in 25 years with his thrilling points victory over Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. Fury’s team has indicated he will take the rematch, which is planned for October, back in Riyadh. In that case, it is unlikely that all four belts would be on the line again, with the IBF set to strip Usyk of their title for not fighting number one contender, currently Filip Hrgovic, the Croatian who is due to fight Britain’s Daniel Dubois in Riyadh on June 1.

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, reckons it is unlikely Usyk will be stripped of the IBF strap in time for that belt to be on the line in Hrgovic vs Dubois. However, it could be on the line when Joshua potentially faces the winner of that bout at Wembley in September.

“He can step in and fight anybody,” Hearn told Boxing News on Thursday. “But if the rematch takes place, it’s very likely that AJ fights the winner of Hrgovic-Dubois. We’ll see what happens, anything is possible.”

Meanwhile, Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, still expects the rematch to go ahead as well. He said: “There will be a rematch and that will be confirmed and announced in due course.

“I think it will be better than the original fight. They both know each other, they’ve shared the ring and they’ll be looking to use what they’ve gained from the fight as an advantage to beat their opponent.”
Anthony Joshua

Asked why Fury would win the rematch, Warren said: “He’s a fighting man, it’s what he brings to the ring. He’s been caught a couple of times in his last couple of fights but he gets up and shows what he’s made of.

“I don’t want to see that happen. But like Usyk, he’s very similar, they’re very cute guys who know their boxing and I have confidence in Tyson. That fight has taken a lot out of both of them so we will see.”

Anthony Joshua could yet fight Tyson Fury later this year, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.

The Gypsy King is recovering from the first loss of his professional career at the weekend. He was downed by Oleksandr Usyk and missed out on the chance to become the heavyweight’s undisputed champion with the Ukraine star now holding all the belts.

Fury is entitled to a rematch that is scheduled for October, but that would mean that he would need to resume training in August following a brief break. The 35-year-old spoke of the need to take some time off, but Hearn has speculated that the two Brits could finally go at it or a third bought with Usyk could be on the cards.

He told Matchroom’s YouTube channel, “I don’t think Tyson Fury is gonna be over the moon with five or six weeks off, but that’s the obligation, there’s a lot of money. Who knows? If Usyk’s injured, can’t make the date, do you make Fury against Joshua – with the winner fighting Usyk? I mean the answer for me is, ‘Yes, please.’

“But it’s down to His Excellency [Turki Al-Sheikh] and the fighters to make the decisions. They have a contracted rematch, but they have to be physically able to make that date, and I guess that’s the next obstacle to overcome.”

Joshua last fought in March when he downed Francis Ngannou, but since 2019 has lost to Andy Ruiz Jr and Usyk on two occasions, meaning he’s had to wait for a shot at getting his belts back.

There has long been talk of Joshua and Fury getting it on in the past but it never materialised with each camp blaming each other for that reality. The pair went at each other on social media with Fury putting AJ and his team on a timer to get the deal done.

Hearn later told TalkSport that Fury was unrealistic with his timings, but insisted Joshua would never duck a fight. He said, “I mean the fact is, huge fights like this don’t get made in two weeks. That’s the reality, when two guys have huge commercial deals with different broadcasters, it takes time.

“And we worked away with George Warren and it was actually going very, very well. Tyson Fury put us on the clock – on a 48-hour clock where the contract was nowhere near ready.”

Fury’s mind this year is likely to be on getting revenge on Usyk with the Gypsy King believing he in fact won the fight in Saudi Arabia. “I believe I won that fight,” he said. “I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority of them, and I believe it was one of those what-can-you-do, one of them… decisions in boxing.”

British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua has revealed that he is not afraid to die because even after death he would still “live on.”

According to him, he is made up of many past generations and he will be part of his future generations to come.

The former world champion wrote on his Snapchat page: “Don’t be afraid to die as you will always live on one way or another.

“In the sense I am Anthony Joshua but I am a make up of many past generations and I will be part of my future generations to come one I create life and pass on.

“Physiologically, I will die – but if I create life I live on.

“When they say you are so much like your granddad or your grandma, you are them and if you knew your great great grand parents it will be the same thing said.”

Oleksandr Usyk inflicted the first loss on Tyson Fury in his professional career on Saturday night.

The Ukrainian became the first man to reign supreme over the heavyweight division since Lennox Lewis by winning the undisputed crown by way of a split decision in Saudi Arabia.

Usyk had looked to have been drifting in the fight as the ‘Gypsy King’ imposed his size and got to grips with the early pace his opponent set.

Many onlookers would have had Fury ahead on the scorecards until the eighth round, when Usyk shifted the momentum by busting Fury’s nose open.

The fight reached its pivotal moment in the ninth round as a ferocious barrage of punches from Usyk sent Fury flying around the ring and repeatedly staggering against the ropes.

Referee Mark Nelson intervened and forced the count, with Fury just about making it before being saved by the bell.

Fury recovered in the closing stages but it was not enough to extend a 35-fight unbeaten streak.

Judge Craig Metcalfe of Canada awarded Fury the fight at a score 114-113.

Fellow judges Manuel Oliver Palomo and Mike Fitzgerald both scored the fight in favour of Usyk, however, at 115-112 and 114-113 respectively.

Among the many stars in attendance in Saudi Arabia was Anthony Joshua.

The British heavyweight has been tipped to fight the winner of a potential rematch between Fury and Usyk, which has been pencilled in for October.

Joshua has been slated to fight the winner of Daniel Dubois and Filip Hrgovic for the soon-to-be-vacant IBF title, too.

Usyk has already beaten Joshua twice but any meeting with Fury would likely be one the biggest fights boxing has ever seen, such is their status in Britain.

Joshua’s promoter and CEO of Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn has revealed Joshua’s thoughts about Saturday night’s drama in the Middle East.

While the general consensus is that the two put on a close fight, Hearn says Joshua thought Usyk was a clear winner.

“He had Usyk winning quite convincingly,” said Hearn of Joshua.

“I went over after and said ‘what do you think?’ And he was like, ‘Usyk’s won, great fight but Usyk comfortable winner.

“I think most people felt that Usyk won, it’s just about how wide they saw the cards.”
