After subpar England displays, Fans want Joshua to beat Southgate
Some fans have humorously asked former heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, to fight England manager Gareth Southgate following the Three Lions underwhelming performances at the ongoing Euro 2024 competition hosted in Germany.
Southgate’s side have been heavily criticised for their performances despite reaching the quarter-finals, where they will face Switzerland on Saturday.
England were on the verge of an embarrassing exit from the continental competition when Ivan Schranz netted his third goal of the tournament to give Slovakia the lead in their last-16 clash.
However, a late Jude Bellingham overhead kick goal took the game into extra time, before Harry Kane headed home from close range to give them a 2-1 win.
Combat sports page, Boxing Kingdom, posted a picture of Joshua on X with the caption, “Who would you like to see Anthony Joshua fight next?”
Portsmouth player Jordan Webb then replied simply, “Gareth Southgate.”

Many other fans then reacted in the comments section, with one even saying the fight should happen before the Switzerland game, perhaps, to prevent the 53-year-old from taking charge of the game.
Simon Allison added, “Any chance you could organise it before Saturday (date of q’finals clash vs Switzerland)”
Emmanuel Karl stated, “Yes Southgate nearly made me wanna jump off a bridge after that Slovakia game.”
Nigerian user, Ayorinde Olade, was shocked by the animosity directed at the England boss.
He wrote, “Has it gotten to this extent?”
Ifeanyi Peter added, “Southgate has given him (Webb) High Blood Pressure.”
Another English fan, Geordie Walker, however, thinks Southgate’s luck might shine through.
